The installation of the protector is simple and fast. The protector sits on the tubing, allowing clearance on the underside of the tool joint for the bottom taper pin to drive directly into the taper loops without interference with tool joint disturbance.
The top end of the guard is installed first. When the protector is placed on the tubing and held in place by an operator, the operator engages the hole in the right collar with the pin at the end of the "C" tong while depressing the advance button on the control remote. As the piston advances, the "C" clamp is positioned so that the push pin at the end of the piston fits into the hole in the left collar. The left and right collars are brought together until the tapered loops align vertically.
